6 best CHEAP EATS in Rio de Janeiro you must know and try

Forget the fancy and expensive restaurants in Rio and avoid at all cost the restaurants located at Copacabana Avenue. Rio has wonderful restaurants with low prices that will surprise you, especially if you are coming from a country whose currency is the dollar or euro. Here are the best 6 cheap eats in Rio de Janeiro, chosen by a local insider who lives in Rio for ten years.

The best 6 CHEAP EATS in Rio de Janeiro

As a local insider, my choice for the best cheap eats in Rio de Janeiro for 2023 and 2024 are:

  1. Pulê
  2. Pizzaria Canastra
  3. Amir
  4. Galeto Viva Flor
  5. Farro Rio
  6. Bibi Sucos

Pulê: the best cheap eats in Rio for french food

Pule is a hidden gem in the heart of Ipanema. It is located in front of General Osorio Square and it is always fully booked. They don’t do reservations, so the best advice I can give you is: for lunch, arrive there by 11:45AM and wait 15 minutes, this way you’ll certainly get a table. For lunch, they have executive plates for BRL48 (less than 10 dollars) with apetizer, entrée and dessert. Pule has a decor full of items collected from antique shops. The owners are french, as well as the menu options. They have the best drinks in town – and also, the biggest and the cheapest ones! Try the Condessa drink and let me know if you love it.

Pizzaria Canastra: the best cheap eats in Rio for pizza

Canastra has one of the best pizzas in Rio. You can try the Ipanema unit or the Leme unit, which has a stunning beach view. The owners are the same from Pule, so you can expect amazing drinks for cheap prices with high quality ingredients.

Amir: the best cheap eats in Rio for lebanese food

Amir is located in Leme, in front of the Lido Square. The restaurant has hearty and very cheap executive dishes from Monday to Friday. Ordering your food through iFood, you will find great promotions every day. My favourite is the falafel stuffed with hummus.

Galeto Viva Flor: the best cheap eats in Rio for brazilian local food

Galeto Viva flor is located in Copacabana, at Paula Freitas street. Locals love this place, and you’ll find big portions for low prices. Brazilian meat, churrasco, chicken, fish and their famous portuguese french fries are a must. Try Viva Flor’s chopp and caipirinha.

Farro: the best cheap eat for buffet in Rio

Farro was born in 2019 and I’m in love with this place since then. At lunch time, they serve a buffet with many options of salads, meats, fish and vegetarian and vegan dishes. Farro has the best surdough bread in town, and lots of different pastries – from brigadeiros to pistacchio cakes, it’s hard to choose just one.

Bibi Sucos: the best cheap eat for juices and natural food in Rio

Bibi Sucos is an institution in Rio de Janeiro. Everybody here loves Bibi for its variety of natural juices and confort food. You can try açaí and also tapioca, or you can eat an avocado cream with a big meat sandwich. The green juice with ginger is my favorite.
